Meet Barry Wernick

Family portrait with a dog in the living room.

I am a lifelong Dallasite, father of three young daughters, and a practicing attorney, mediator, and arbitrator with extensive experience in conflict resolution and public service. I have served as a precinct chair and election judge, and I have provided expert testimony in federal court on election processes and auditability.

Having personally participated in a recount, I saw firsthand the flaws in our current election system. I am running to secure fully auditable results for every race and every ballot so that every voter can trust the outcome.

My goal is straightforward: to bring transparency, accountability, and practical, common-sense leadership to the Dallas County Commissioners Court. I will listen to the diverse voices of District 2, prioritize fiscal responsibility, ensure public funds are used effectively, and work collaboratively on the issues that matter most — safer neighborhoods, lower costs for families, better access to services, and trustworthy local government.

My vision is “The Land of Milk and Honey for District 2” — a community where government is limited, accountable, and ethical; where families are safe and prosperous; where elections are fair and trusted; and where hardworking residents keep more of their own money instead of funding insider deals, radical experiments, and endless debt.

I grew up in the Preston Hollow neighborhood of Dallas during the 1970s and 1980s. My brothers and I were raised by a strong single mother after our father abandoned the family. She made it clear that we were not victims — and neither was she. As a single mother with no child support, she led by example through hard work and determination. She instilled in us the importance of education and a deep love for God, country, state, city, and community — values I carry with me to this day.

I attended Akiba Academy for elementary school before being accepted to St. Mark’s School of Texas, where I excelled academically, participated in varsity sports and theater, and served as student council president.

In college, I studied international relations, Soviet and East European studies, and linguistics at the University of Texas at Austin. I was selected as one of a small group of civilians to study with U.S. Air Force and Army Russian linguists at Trinity University and later received a USIA grant to study at the Moscow Power College in Russia.

After graduation, I moved to Israel, where I worked in dispute resolution for the Ministry of Justice in Jerusalem. I also pushed back against false claims of Israel’s “mistreatment of terrorists” made by agenda-driven organizations such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch.

I returned to Dallas to earn my J.D. from SMU Dedman School of Law. While in law school, I assisted in the Child Abuse and Domestic Violence Division of the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office and served as president of the Jewish Law Students Association. I also studied at Tel Aviv University’s Buchmann School of Law, participating in a symposium on the legal aspects of Middle East peace, ceasefires, and truces.

Over my more than 28 years as an attorney, mediator, and arbitrator, I have lived and worked across multiple industries in New York, Florida, California, and Texas. I have served as in-house counsel, CEO, and managing member for companies in banking and financial services, pharmaceuticals and insurance, sports and entertainment, residential and commercial real estate, and SEC/FTC-regulated businesses and franchises.

Eighteen years ago, I returned home to Texas. I now focus my practice on mediation, arbitration, negotiation, and settlement counsel as a TMCA Texas Credentialed Distinguished Mediator. I have volunteered at the Dallas County Dispute Resolution Center, served as Chair of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section of the Dallas Bar Association, and am currently serving my third term on the State Bar of Texas ADR Council through 2026.

Outside of my legal work, I write and produce television and film projects. I created a Gold Telly Award-winning educational video that helps children face their abusers when testifying in court — a resource used by the Crimes Against Children Division of the Dallas District Attorney’s Office and other DA offices across the country.

I am an Operation Underground Railroad Abolitionist Club member and part of the Men’s Advocacy Group of New Friends New Life — organizations dedicated to rescuing victims from human trafficking and the sex trade industry that operates right here in Dallas. I actively serve on boards and volunteer with numerous charities and nonprofits. I am also an active member of the Aaron Family Jewish Community Center and my synagogues, Ohr HaTorah and Congregation Shaare Tefilla, where I previously served a three-year term on the board.

I have a major stake in the future of District 2. My wife, Alyssa, and I are raising our three daughters — Betsy Rose, Alice, and Libby — right here in our community.

We deserve a strong, independent voice on the Commissioners Court. I will be someone you can trust to defend our liberties and the Constitution.

It is time we limit government, not people. Let’s put someone on the court who will finally deliver real transparency and accountability.

Why Am I Running?

I’m running because I believe District 2 deserves better leadership — leadership focused on transparency, accountability, and putting people first.
